TDR Kotelnikov, by Tokyo Dawn Labs, is a free wideband dynamics processor built for transparent, high-precision compression and limiting — the kind of tool you’d reach for on a mix bus or master rather than for an obvious effect. It comes from the same lineage as TDR Feedback Compressor and shares family traits with TDR Nova, but instead of emulating a classic hardware unit, Kotelnikov was designed from scratch as a “proudly digital” processor.

Free, with an optional paid upgrade (Gentleman’s Edition) adding extra workflow features. Available in VST / VST3 on Windows, and VST / VST3 / AU / AAX on macOS (64-bit), for Windows 7+ and macOS 10.9+.

This is maybe one of the most transparent and useful compressor plugins out there, and it’s free! If you’re working on acoustic music and need to squeeze piano, acoustic guitar, vocals, or even the mix bus to reduce the overall dynamic range without a bunch of pumping, this just works! Surprised it’s not a 5 out of 5 stars. Learn about Crest Factor, and this is an excellent compressor plug.
