Audacity 4

Audacity 4 | Audio Plugins for Free

Audacity 4 is a major rebuild of the free, open-source audio editor, with a new interface built on the Qt framework and a redesigned timeline. Compared to Audacity 3, clips now get dedicated trim and stretch handles, you can zoom in and drag individual samples directly, and the whole workspace can be reconfigured for different kinds of work.

Features

  • Trim and stretch handles directly on each clip, no extra tool switching.
  • Direct sample editing by zooming into the waveform.
  • Per-track meters for recording and playback levels.
  • Markers and regions to label and export sections of a project.
  • Dedicated loop range control on the timeline.
  • Configurable workspaces (Classic, Music, Modern, Custom) with a bars-and-beats timeline option.
  • Custom accent colors, light/dark/high-contrast themes, and per-clip colors.
  • Redesigned built-in effects: Compressor, Filter Curve, Graphic EQ, Limiter, Reverb.
  • Native VST3, Audio Unit and LV2 plugin support, no wrapper needed.
  • MuseHub integration for browsing extra effects, samples and one-shots.
  • Optional audio.com cloud projects and publishing.
  • Opens .aup3 projects from Audacity 3 natively.

It works equally well for podcast editing, music, voiceovers, sound design and audio restoration.

Compatibility

Free and open source under GPL v3. Windows, macOS and Linux, with a native Qt interface on all three.
